There has been so much focus in the last twenty years on large churches, that one obvious point has been overlooked: is it possible for small churches (however one defines “small”) to have a fruitful and strategic ministry? The answer, of course, is “yes.” How could we not think that God indwells churches of every size and has given them the gifts and graces to carry out effective ministry? Oftentimes more effective ministry than the huge church up the street.
Here is an interview with Brandon O’Brian, the author of a new book, The Strategically Small Church. The bottom line is this: “Your church–whatever size–has everything it needs to be used in extraordinary ways for the Kingdom of God. You don’t need more resources or more volunteers; you just need the imagination to see how God has equipped you uniquely to carry the gospel to your neighbors.”
