Day 16 of Knowing Him: An Easter Devotional (view all days)
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning…. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:1-2, 14)
Oftentimes we understand the beginning of a story when we approach its end. Like Genesis the opening words of the Gospel of John are “in the beginning,” except this beginning stretches beyond the creation, back to a time when there was God–and only God. There must have been such a time, of course, because if God is the Creator, then there was a time when it was only God.
The great truth of Christianity here described by John in his gospel, and repeated throughout the New Testament, is that Jesus Christ was there before the beginning. He is the Word of God, he was with God, and he was God. He took part in the act of creation; he is the source of life and light.
Then one day he took human form (“the Word became flesh”). He came and lived a life that looked just like ours, with hunger, tiredness, temptation, but without sin. He is the great enigma of the history of the world. People have worshipped him and have hated him. They have tried to ignore him, but that is the least sensible thing to do.
He is the Lord of glory. “We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth” (vs. 14).
Ponder This: In what ways do you need the truth and grace of God through Christ at this point in your life?
[This daily devotional will appear through Easter. You may receive via email.]
To bless me to have clarity to stay close to Jesus, no matter what happens. This is my greatest wish.
From the beginning of time God in three persons, God The Father, Jesus The Son and The Holy Spirit, have there being in one Person. I believe these three function as as ONE. The three were
present from the beginning but there separate functions. This is One of the mystery’s which we
DO NOT fully understand now until reach HEAVEN.
We need God’s grace and truth in all areas of our lives. There is none among us who can do good without it.
I need Christ and the Blessed Holy Trinity in my life every day and I pray to them always. I believe that Christ is God as “in the beginning”. I also believe that those that do not believe in Christ also will be saved through their faith. What a surprise it will be for them to see Him when they enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Like Thomas some have to be shown but it does not make them any the less believers or heirs to the Kingdom of God. We have to pray for them.
Saved through their faith in who or what? Trust in the finished work of Jesus through His shed blood to pay for our sins is the only way to be saved.
My wishes all the times has been for all people believe in Jesus Christ as a God and living for that.We will experience heaven right in this living World
O for a closer walk with the Lord, and actually feel Him near you, that is truly Heaven, and to stay in that serenity is my desire.
I will always need God’s truth no matter where I am in life. At this point in my life, I am two weeks away from being 64 years old. I’m in a nursing home in Tennessee, and my daughter and her family live in Vermont. I really feel led to move to Vermont. Because when my time comes to die, I would like my family around me. The move is going to be very expensive. I need God’s grace to provide the funds for me to move.
At this point in my life, I need the truth and lots of grace. I need it like oxygen. I need the focus to keep from going under mentally.
It has took me 10 years to get this far. I have been rejected and abused and left with many deep phobias. I have overcome many trials and stituations in my life.
At this point I an dealing with feelongs of loss and isolation. also views of mw that seem to fall into darkness.
I have total dependance onGod, rising and falling tides of emotions.
Yet as I look back, I can see the grace of God had been there for me.I need to read the Word deeper and hold on to the promises, I need daily. I am learning to lived loved by God.
I thank and Praise Him Daily.
To be reminded that God is in control is an assurance I daily seek. To remember that what we see here on earth is only temporary. My purpose is to be a light to others and to share God’s mission of reconciliation.
Oh how nice it would be to believe that it doesn’t matter what each individual believes, that all will end up in heaven. To think that those that I love who have rejected the existence of God and do not accept Christ’s sacrifice will still join us in paradise, is a pipe dream and contrary to God’s word.
“But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” John 1:12
May God continue to work in their hearts and use me however He deems fit.
I, personally, need God’s truth and grace to give me the strength to behave as Jesus Himself did. For we are not meant to simply observe the acts of Jesus. We are meant to act as He did. While many of us cannot perform His miracles, we are able to believe in His father and love everyone as He did.
Thank you Lord, for giving me the faith to act as your Son did.
I have really enjoyed this series. The selections make me think, ponder, and reflect upon His truths.
Fyi, I think today’s selection has an error. I think you mean “least” not “lease.”
I have always needed the Grace of God through Christ throught my entire life. It is Christ who has given me the strength to live. He has giving me a great outlook on my life. He is there for me all the time even through difficult times. I will always trust in the Lord and I can never get enough of his word!
To follow, and obey Him.
I need the truth and grace of God in my life always.. i must start each new day with Him in the lead..Because life is a journey with many choices twists and turns,, I must have,,seek ,,His truth and grace to guide me..I need his grace to love me so that i may be helpful and loveful towards others.. thanks be to Him The glory is all His..
I am so thankful that his mercies are fresh and new everyday. I desperately need Him every moment. He is my all-in-all. I need Him to help me keep my eyes fixed on Him so I stay safely on the narrow path that leads to Him. I need Him to keep my spiritual eyes & ears open, to hear His still small voice, to keep my heart soft and willing to be disciplined if necessary. In this life, it is so easy to stumble, to allow temptation to turn my gaze away from the Truth and stray off the path. Thank you Lord for your grace and your willingness to forgive and to pick me up and put me back onto the path of life.
I want to make a comment to the one Margie’s made above. I have to disagree that those who do not believe in Christ will be saved through their faith. Jesus is the only way to salvation. There are so many references in God’s Word that state emphatically that Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life and that no man comes to the Father except through Him. He is the Door. It’s Christ, who came as Man in the form of a bondservant, who shed His holy, sinless blood for the sins of all humanity. If we don’t believe and receive that sacrifice, we’re as lost as the world who doesn’t believe at all. You are right Margie. We do need to pray for all those who don’t know the Truth.
The Lord is my Future. My life is in His Hands; Have no Fear the Lord is with me.
Earl…
I want to thank you Donna, for stating what is God’s Truth in your reply to Margie. There is NO SALVATION except through the sacrifice, death & resurrection of Jesus Christ.
I need the truth and grace of God through Christ in EVERY area at this point in my life. However more specifically, if it is HIS will, I really desire to see His grace and truth regarding His power to heal the sick. I know He is able to do exceedingly above all I can imagine and I pray that He would manifest total healing in my friend’s body. There are others as well.
In the beginning was the word, and the word was God, and the word became flesh. This means to me that in the beginning of the creation of the world. God was there, and so was Jesus. Because the word, which is Jesus became flesh, and dwelled upon the land with us. We have seen theglory of the father by looking at Jesus. He paid the price for our redemption, and he made the way posssible so that we can have a chance to eternal life. Thank you Lord Jesus for all that you have done for mankind, and me and my family. I love you, I praise you, I thank God for you, and your lovingkindness.
I have been enjoying the easter devotionals, and every once in a while I want to print one out so I can refer to it later, in a Bible study group, for example. Suggest that you put them in a format that is printable–less top and bottom “stuff” also a width that a printer can capture.
I need Jesus’ grace and truth to help me to be able to give up to Him people who have hurt me directly and indirectly.
My flesh wants to issue its own revenge, but that would be more harmful than good, for them and for me. It is hard to give up those who have so broken my heart, but I need to do that so that I wouldn’t be so bound by anger towards them who don’t know Him.
One example of how we need( must have ) the truth and grace of God through Christ is the bible, and using it as a constant encouraging source of help. How could we possibly live without the help from Isaiah 46:11, 2 Corinth 4:8, Joshua 1:5, just to name a few. Jesus/God gave us all we need to understand. It is all right there.
