I always thought I knew what this beloved verse in the Psalms meant until I looked into it carefully: “Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10)….
I used to think it meant that if we get very quiet and listen for the “still, small voice of God,” that then we will really hear what God has to say to us. But “be still” is more like Jesus commanding the storm on the Sea of Galilee to “be quiet.” It means “cease and desist” from all the noise and fighting and conflict of life. And then God will let us know what he is really like.
I spoke on this recently in a message called “That’s the God for Me” based on the powerful words of Psalm 46.
