Thunder Word

Day 11 of Knowing Him: An Easter Devotional (view all days)

“Now my soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour. Father, glorify your name!”

Then a voice came from heaven, “I have glorified it, and will glorify it again.” The crowd that was there and heard it said it had thundered; others said an angel had spoken to him.

Jesus said, “This voice was for your benefit, not mine. Now is the time for judgment on this world; now the prince of this world will be driven out. And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.” He said this to show the kind of death he was going to die. (John 12:27-33)

In that last week of Jesus’ life on earth he taught one day about an event of the cosmos about to happen. The day of his death would not just be a martyrdom, but “the time for judgment.” By a great divine act the Evil One himself would be driven out, and by being “lifted up from the earth,” Jesus would draw people to himself.

Jesus said that sometimes death results in new life. Like a seed buried in the soil, soon to erupt into life, so would his demise be the brief prelude before life would burst out upon the human scene. It would be like that dark moment in a theater when all the lights go dim, all voices hushed, before the curtain comes up, the lights bathe the stage and we see what the playwright really has in mind.

This would not be easy–Jesus knew that. Showing his real humanity, Jesus told his disciples that his heart was troubled, but he also told the Father: “glorify your name!”

That’s all that was needed. Soon, the disciples would be having their last supper with Jesus, and in the meantime, a little while to think about seeds in the ground.

Ponder This: How would you like God to be glorified in your life?

How would I like God to be glorified in my life? By the way I live my life. The things I do and say should be inline with the principles God teaches in his Word. Jesus was radical with what he believed in and knew. There were no two-ways about his teaching – it was “either” “or”! For example: “either you repent or you perish”. There’s no gray area. I want that for my life. I don’t want to please people – I want to please God!

  2. God is Glorified in my life. I would just like to be able to share Him with others on a daily basis. I would love to be one of His chosen few to be able to share Him daily with the sick or dying or even prisoners. There are many in this material life that would get to know Him better and not live for riches but live for Him and be truly happy. I live each day for Him reminding myself to stop and think and listen to Him before I act. I could do that better I’m sure. Maybe then I would be called to share Him with others. God Bless, You are glorified in my life. Teach me how to share please.

  3. I would like God to be glorified by sharing his words to others so that the cup of salvation be with my love ones to my friends and also to my detractors especially to the whole world.

  4. I hope that in everything I do, in every gesture I make that people feel loved. My hope is that when I address someone, even someone on the street they feel that I care and at that moment they are important to me. God is love and I strive to show his love and grace in the way I live my life.

God, our Father love us unconditinally in all our brokeness, may I have the gift and the grace to see the world through God eyes. What a wonderful world it will be <3

  5. How I glorify His name? By exercising a good christian behavior in sharing and caring. Stand close to the people who understand suffering and clinging to the truth by reassuring them all the pain and agony is only temporary and that by our faith in Him all will be well. Be an ally to the wounded, to faithfully give both compassion and challenge at the times we need them most. Call upon Him when the going gets rough and the tough gets going. Without glorifying Him, all would be for naught.

  6. I would love for God to be glorified through my life by my works. I would love for people to know Jesus by my deeds. To look at me and say that there is a God and He is alive. To let my light so shine that God will be glorified, not me but God. To God be all the glory.

  7. By renewing my mind, heart and soul in Gods word daily being obedience and allowing God purpose to fulfill my life and not my own. Even when the storms gets rough and my emotion start to get over whelm. I will remember Gods words and will not lose heart. I will remain rooted and grounded in Gods words for my life and remain in his path and God will have the Glory. His Will Be Done.

  8. he has given my husband and I two son with disabilities and shown us how to care for them in times that are hard. He also has save me from a drunk driver back in 1992, and when my colon busted in 2008. God has always been there when i needed him and he has tested me but i have keep my faith. God is the best and he is always going to be there to help you thru trouble time you just have to have faith.

  9. I would like God to be glorified in my daily activities. This is more difficult for me than it may be for others because I am compartmentalizing Jesus and viewing Him too Holy to care about my dirty house and other routine things that need doing every day. So, on a daily basis I will praise God that I have a house to clean and dishes to eat off of. Glory to His name.

  10. I would like to see God glorified by living my walk with Him so completely, including being in that place of rest and in His peace no matter the chaos all around us, that the world takes notice and wants to know how they too can have that peace. I want people to see Jesus on my face, to smell His fragrance and be drawn to Him through me. In that way, He gets ALL the glory. I have the privilege of being used by Him – Praise God!!

  11. God, in an act of incredible mercy is transforming me from an alcoholic and a drug user (among other sinful behaviours) into the christian man of integrity that He and I have always wanted me to be. I wish to glorify Him by continuing to participate in this transformation. When people see the changes in me and hear from my lips that God is responsible for making it happen for me they will know that there is hope for them also. I will glorify Him by telling my story.

    1. Kevin – what a great liberation you are experiencing. You are honoring God by looking for integrity. Trusted friends and confidants will be important for you.

I would like the world as well as other belivers to see Christ in me in every sistutation in life.
When people can see Christ, and not us. I t is a wonderful thing.
I heard a woman once say”I’d rather see a sermon, than to hear one.”

  13. Just about every day I pray and ask God that I maybe a blessing to someone today. And, in doing so, I hope that person or a situation of persons may see Jesus in me, inturn God be glorified. Thank you Jesus for using me even though I’m unworthy.

  15. I woud love God to be glorified in my life, and pray for this i know he has forgiven me of my sins but it is hard to forgive yourself I am working on this. Thank you for this verse today I really needed it.

  16. Jesus died and conquered death and took the keys to Hell from Satan for me so I may know eternity with the Lord so it is only fitting that I try to glorify God in all I do and with all I meet.

  17. I would like others to see God glorified by my actions and deeds. I do not want to be just a spokesperson for God as I have seen others merely say the correct words and then trip over their actions as they walk.

  18. I would share the love of God that has been given upon me. The unconditional love that has transformed my life. I will love people as myself and treat them with kindness and compassion just as Jesus did. I would ask God for help because it’s never that easy. I can do all these things through Christ who strengthens me.

  19. I humbly and meekly pray that our God in Jesus is glorified in all ways and at all times in the Spirit of the Living God in myself and all of my family and all our generations to come in the Loving name of Jesus Christ our Loving Lord and Savior.

  20. people have disappointed us so much that it is so for us to trust even God; I pray for the grace to hand over, believing that ‘He who began a good work in me, will be faith ful to complete it.’

  21. I would like God glorified in my life by my being an example by the way I live, especially to my kids, that the ways of the world do not work, but that the ways of Jesus DO work.

  23. I would like for my Father in Heaven to be glorified in everything I do & say through Jesus Christ’s name.

  24. I feel that you have given us a calling with our son Lord. He is such a gift and I think that is the avenue you have set out for me as “my calling”. Help me, help others, through this amazing blessing of a special needs child. Please give me your words and your comfort as I try to minister to others in desperate need of your face. Thank you for this gift and this opportunity. I love you Lord.

I would love for God to be glorified in my life by changing the way I walk, talk and removing all from my heart that displeases him. Amen

  26. I really enjoyed today’s message because with all the horrible things happening in the world it is a blessing to know that while we are in darkness the light (Jesus) will come back for us as HE promised. I just continue to hold on to my faith through my personal struggles and the craziness of the world until his return.

  27. I can not put it in words – no suitable explanation – I am terribly clouded with the Lord’s crucifixion scene in my head and why it had to happen that I would only ask for forgiveness for all my sins in the past, present and future which might want to be born again out of me in thinking, talking or deeds! Amen!
